My name is Kate, I’m a Doula.

I’m also a mother to two turbo girls, a good cook and a crossword wizard. I have birthed in a hospital and at home, and followed the pregnancies of countless friends and clients, and have noticed the huge gaps in the maternity system. I support birthing families throughout their entire journey, in a meaningful and practical way.

What does a Doula do?

A Doula is a support person who is an expert in natural birth, who knows the maternity system intimately and who is passionate about helping birthing women navigate the highs and lows of pregnancy. They work for the family who hires them during pregnancy to plan the birth and postpartum. They provide feedback and support after appointments and tests and share positive and powerful birth and postpartum education to help you have an incredible experience in labour and beyond.

During the birth a Doula will provide physical and mental support for the couple, present from labour until the babe is earthside.

After the birth a Doula will impart an abundance of wisdom and support, both emotional and practical. Sleep, sleeping arrangements, breastfeeding, baby wearing & the birthing mothers’ recovery are the focus of the months after birth, and a Doula will be there to answer every question and hold the baby while you have a cup of tea and lay down.

Your Doula supports you, not the system

A bridge between the gap between the churning machine of the hospital system, and the incredible joy and spirituality that can be found in pregnancy and birth, a Doula is a beautiful and personal way to integrate the two experiences.

By engaging a Doula, women have the continuous emotional and physical support of a birth worker throughout pregnancy and beyond. Women and families who work with a Doula have consistently better birth outcomes, lower rates of intervention and Caesarean section and shorter labours.

Home or Hospital

Everyone deserves meaningful support, regardless of where they are planning to have their baby. I have birthed both at Wollongong Public Hospital and at home, so have first hand knowledge of both scenarios.

No matter which care provider you have engaged, what kind of birth you have planned, what songs are on your playlist, I will support you in your decisions without judgement.

I believe in YOU!

I believe in a women’s right and innate ability to birth naturally and safely, without feeling fear, trauma or shame.

I believe your body is incredible and clever, not dangerous and mysterious.

I believe in the powerful and meaningful connection between women in the birthing space and and that through genuine support we can create a soft landing place for the journey into motherhood.

I believe in physiology, intuition and deep inner knowing.

I believe that you and your baby will work harmoniously together throughout this beautiful rite of passage.
